Brooster was a rooster who nearly died during a winter snow storm. April brought him in from the cold and tended his many wounds. April and her husband Jake had not been getting along for some time. Each seemed to be waiting for the other to pack and call the marriage quits. Although Jake was not found of roosters, it was hard not to like Brooster. Brooster had a way about him that made people want to spend time with him. April and Jake took turns caring for him and sometimes sat together for hours while one or the other gave Brooster the love and attention all living things require. In a most peculiar way, some of the love and attention they were giving Brooster found its way back to them. Love is funny that way. Once sent out it goes where it is needed and takes on a life of its own. All the while Brooster was healing there was healing going on between April and her husband Jake. They had come together for a common cause. They got to see each other's kindness, warmth, and love. They got to watch something they loved heal. It is hard to say what day it was when they forgot the things they disagreed on. It is hard to say exactly how Brooster saved April and Jakes marriage, but he did and that is why I call him a quiet hero.
